About Us

Welcome! You honor us and the Holyland by choosing to retreat here among the peace and beauty which God has so abundantly birthed and nurtured. Please feel free to make this home your home during your personal, spiritual retreat. You may use the bedding, bath, kitchen, refrigerator, washer/dryer, clothes line, creek, stereo, video, books, lights, fans, air conditioner (in Casita*), herb gardens, fire circle, telephone for local calls only and anything that adds to your comfort or joy.

*Casita is the Retreat Wellness Centre. Instructions for use of the sauna and whirlpool are posted in the healing room.

Please Note:

While on the Holyland, no self or other destructive behaviors — violence, aggression, etc. — are allowed. No consumption of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, flesh, fish or fowl is permitted. Retreatants agree to honor the intention that no living creature or creation be harmed. Reduce, reuse, recycle.

We invite you to:

  • Commune with the Sacred.
  • Rest, Renew, Rebirth, Revitalize & Rejoice.
  • Notice your surroundings carefully and leave things as you found them.
  • Move about freely – AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION.
  • ENJOY! Drum, chant, sing, dance, walk, frolic, meander, ponder, meditate, converse.
  • Spend some time in Silence with our gardens. Help with weeding is always welcome!
  • Wildcraft woodland herbs, berries, etc., gently unburdening the plant, giving thanks.
  • Howl at the moon, primal scream, wade in the creek, etc.
  • Feed the birds (birdseed in the laundry room), if so inclined.
  • Take home a creek rock as a memento, if you desire.
  • Clean-up, turn-off, close-down, pull-shut and bless the Holyland before leaving.

MorningStar Community is an intentional, ecumenical community founded by a Cherokee Hermitess and Catholic mystic. Our mission is to preserve and protect the simple and sacred through instinctual living, educational experiences, spiritual direction, personal disciplines, and collective and individual spiritual retreats. Our vision is thus: we honor the wildish nature by finding sacred and encouraging in our selves and our kinsters the ways of instinctive knowing, of inner growth and spritual expansion and the passing on of wisdom through ritual and storytelling. We strive for world peace and global solidarity. While on the Holyland we uphold these principles: peaceful ways, not harming or forcing life, vegetarian lifestyle, gratitude/gratefulness, cherishing life, valuing relationships, simplistic living, loving as our divine spirit loves.
